Case Studies

From concept sketches that win pitches to live event visuals that shape experiences, my work helps agencies and brands bring ideas to life. Below are real-world examples of how my concept art and storyboards have delivered results.

ID Collective - Centrepiece Melbourne Park

  • The Challenge.

I was engaged by ID. Collective on behalf of CENTREPIECE Melbourne Park to create a series of illustrations for the AIME 2025 event. This included pre-event themed visuals of the Grand Hall, live illustration at the expo booth, and bespoke artwork for a branded tote bag and room spray bottle to enhance the visitor experience.

  • Preparation.

In the lead-up to AIME, I developed 14 distinct event scenarios and built a library of over 100 bespoke illustrated assets. These included furniture, lighting, digital screens, props, and people—each designed to help bring CENTREPIECE’s Grand Hall to life in a variety of imaginative formats. This asset bank gave me the flexibility to quickly visualise custom concepts during the live event.

  • Engage.

I illustrated live at the CENTREPIECE booth during the Aime event, creating tailored concepts on the fly using my laptop and broadcasting the process to a 4-metre-wide LED screen. The live illustration drew steady interest from attendees, many of whom stopped to ask questions or offer enthusiastic feedback. Many were gifted one of the limited-edition illustrated tote bags.

Clara Brkic - ID. Collective

“Paul’s unique illustration style and calm disposition made for a seamless execution of our vision. His attention to detail, enthusiasm and general positive nature was a delight to work with. We really loved the collaboration and look forward to working together again soon!”

Junior Major - The Royal Australian Mint (Canberra)

  • The Challenge:

Junior Major engaged me to help visualise key spaces for Stories of Change, the Royal Australian Mint’s largest permanent exhibition. My brief was to create concept illustrations of the interactive gallery environments, alongside storyboards that mapped the visitor journey.

  • Engaging spaces.

I produced visuals that captured the atmosphere, flow, and scale of the exhibition. These illustrations showed how visitors would move through the space and interact with key digital and physical elements, helping bring Junior Major’s vision to life.

  • The Outcome:

Seeing the final exhibition space realised at the Royal Australian Mint was incredibly rewarding. The finished gallery closely reflected the concepts and storyboards I created, bringing my early visuals to life in a way that was both faithful and dynamic. A true testament to the collaborative process.

Tom Siddell - Junior Major

“Paul’s brilliant to work with. He makes it easy to get ideas out of our heads and onto the page - fast, clear, and always on point.”

Havas Blvd - Netflix Activations

  • It starts with a sketch.

I was commissioned by Havas Blvd to illustrate four immersive set design concepts for a Netflix activation, transforming three luxury portable toilets and a larger powder room into stylised, instantly recognisable environments from Stranger Things, Squid Game, Emily in Paris, and Heartbreak High.

  • Reiterate until it is right.

The challenge was to capture each show’s iconic aesthetic and support Havas in presenting a compelling creative vision to Netflix. Each concept went through a lively, collaborative process—refined through rounds of feedback, tweaks, and creative back-and-forth between myself, the agency, and the client.

  • Draw a crowd.

Seeing my illustrated concepts come to life on Sydney Harbour was a proud moment. The immersive sets for Stranger Things, Squid Game, Emily in Paris, and Heartbreak High drew excited crowds, with visitors capturing and sharing their experiences.

Maxine Reed - Havas Blvd

“We hugely appreciate your creative input & feel that the illustrations offer a fundamental additional layer to our activation vision.”

Thinkerbell - XXXX Beer

  • Fun in the sun - The Brief

Thinkerbell approached me to help visualise a campaign for XXXX beer that celebrates Queenslanders doing what they do best — having fun, their way. The team needed vibrant concept visuals to support both OOH and film, capturing quirky, quintessentially Queensland scenarios with a playful creative twist.

  • Transformation of an idea.

Working from a loose scamp, I developed a rich, expressive visual that brought the scene to life — a sun-soaked summer moment filled with energy, character, and Queensland charm. The transformation from sketch to full artwork helped the agency sell the vibe and tone.

  • Anyone for cricket?

Seeing the final print and film executions was a real highlight — the concept art translated beautifully into polished, high-impact campaign moments. From the packed hammock scene to the jetty-side beach cricket, it was a thrill to see.
